When Do You Write?

When do you get your best writing done?

I write best early in the morning.

It seems counterintuitive that my brain would conjure up words out of the fog of sleep, but then maybe it’s because morning is when I have the most freedom for creative inspiration (and coffee).

Juggling a career, family duties, and all the other things that come up in a day; mornings are when I can really focus on getting words down or revising. I’ve tried numerous times to write in the evenings, or even mid-day during lunch breaks, but it never works for me.

Maybe the stresses and responsibilities of the day expend too much mental fuel from my tank?

This isn’t a product of age or evolution either, from what I can tell. Even in high school and college I was always a morning person, and got my best work done in the early daylight hours.

When are you the most creative and productive with your writing? Hopefully you’re one of those lucky writers who can just knock out great ideas around the clock whenever you have the free time!

I’m definitely a morning writer as well. By the end of the work day I’m exhausted and just want sweat pants and Netflix.

Mine is mid-morning to early evening. After 8 pm is when I just want to fall asleep on the couch ๐Ÿ˜›

Mine is definitely early morning, like I mentioned in the post. My brain is total mush by evening, and no worthwhile creativity comes out of it. That’s when I’m usually “refilling the tank” by reading.

I usually do my projects after work so I leave writing and editing mostly for the day.

Sunday morning, 8 AM to 1 PM. That’s when I’m the most creative, but being in my favorite coffee place helps…

Coffee always helps writing, no matter where you happen to be. ๐Ÿ™‚

When I was younger, I wrote at night. Now, if I don’t get it written by noon, it’s not happening–no matter how much coffee I have!

It’s very rare I get any real writing done in PM hours. Unless it’s scratching quick ideas in my notebook. All my serious work gets done in the mornings before my brain is all burnt out by daily obligations.
